Traunstein, 02.12.2024
- The Greenvolt Group, which includes MaxSolar and Energy Partners, has signed an agreement with Flora Food Group for the development of two solar projects in Portugal and Germany.
- Flora Food Group is a leader in more than 100 countries and owns iconic brands such as Flora, Becel+ProActiv, BlueBand, Country Crock, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, Rama and Violife, as well as numerous local brands.
- The contract with the Flora Food Group provides for the installation of almost 5,000 photovoltaic solar modules on the food manufacturer's production facilities. The two systems will have a combined installed capacity of around 3 megawatts and generate more than 3 gigawatt hours of renewable energy per year.
In addition to accelerating the energy transition at the two production sites, the project will significantly reduce the Flora Food Group's energy consumption and support the company in realising its sustainability goals.
The Greenvolt Group signed its contract with Flora Food Group, a global leader in branded food, to develop two decentralised energy generation projects. Through its subsidiary Greenvolt Next, the Group will install almost 5,000 photovoltaic solar panels at Flora Food Group's sites in Portugal and Germany, which together will generate more than 3 gigawatt hours of clean energy annually.
Installation of solar modules in Portugal and Germany to promote renewable energies
The contract provides for the installation of around 1,485 solar modules at the Portuguese plant in Santa Iria da Azóia in the district of Loures. An additional 3,483 solar modules will be installed at the Flora Food Group's German production facility in Wittenberg in the Harz Mountains. The solar modules at the Portuguese plant, which are being realised as part of a project by Greenvolt Next Portugal, have a capacity of around 861 kilowatts and will enable the factory to generate around 1.1 gigawatt hours of sustainable energy per year. In Germany, the company Energy Partners GmbH, which is backed by Greenvolt and others as an investor and is a subsidiary of MaxSolar GmbH, will install solar modules with a capacity of around 2 megawatts, which in turn will generate around 2 gigawatt hours per year. Both projects are expected to reduce energy costs by around 20 %.
Matthias Giller, Managing Director of Energy Partners GmbH, emphasised: ‘This project is an important step towards promoting the use of renewable energy in food production. By installing solar solutions at production sites and implementing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), we are helping companies like the Flora Food Group to optimise their energy consumption, reduce operating costs and achieve their sustainability goals.’
‘These are important decentralised energy generation projects that Greenvolt is implementing through its various subsidiaries and highlight the strength of the Greenvolt Group's pan-European platform,’ says João Manso Neto.
Greenvolt was recently acquired by an affiliate of investment funds advised by global investment firm KKR as part of its Global Infrastructure strategy. ‘KKR's majority investment gives us the necessary support to accelerate Greenvolt's growth plan, while providing the opportunity to collaborate with other companies in KKR's global portfolio, such as Flora Food Group, particularly in the field of decentralised energy generation,’ added João Manso Neto.
‘The partnership with Greenvolt fits perfectly with our sustainability goals. By installing solar panels at our facilities in Portugal and Germany, we are making concrete progress in reducing our energy consumption while increasing operational efficiency,’ says Laurent Lavenut, Chief Operations and Product Officer of the Flora Food Group.
Decentralised energy generation is one of the growth pillars of the Greenvolt Group, which continues to expand its pan-European self-consumption platform and is now active in twelve regions. The company is a global leader in the development of large-scale projects (utility-scale) in the field of wind and solar energy as well as battery storage solutions in 16 countries. It is also one of the leading players in the generation of clean energy from residual biomass in Portugal and the UK, where it owns Tilbury Green Power and Kent Central.
